Island House has something to offer, summer or winter. Fabulous gardens make the most of bright summer’s days, but the same inspiring views are accessible in summer and winter with floor to ceiling (double-glazed) windows in many rooms.
When you choose to leave Island House’s comforts, wander the island and its shops, dip a toe into the waters of the North Sea, or wander the Priory’s ancient ruins. Visit Lindisfarne Castle and Gertrude Jeykll’s garden, or view the whole island from The Lookout on the Heugh. You can even walk to the mainland across the Pilgrims path at low tide (perfectly safe, as long as you stick to the path and remain aware of the tides).
Across the causeway, your options are endless. Immerse yourself in history by exploring the wonderful castles, from jaw-dropping Bamburgh, to Dunstanburgh’s iconic ruins, to Alnwick castle, set of Hogwart’s School in the Harry Potter films! Alternatively, get your walking boots on and head for the Cheviots for stunning, hilly views, or the beaches for miles upon miles of well-kept shoreline. Seahouses offers boat trips to see the puffins and seals at the Farne Islands, which is most spectacular when the terns and eider ducks come in to nest in late spring.
